 Group Shot 2

Yes it's true Angel did graduate high school on June 17, 2010.  But all kidding aside we are very proud of Angel for graduating and putting another milestone to adulthood behind him.  The weather was beautiful and the ceremony was lovely.  After some photos and group shots we all went home as Angel went to celebrate with some friends...

Our Mini Connecticut College Reunion! June 26, 2010

June 26, 2010
Laura (expecting her first baby!), Me, and Katie

The three of us haven't seen each other for quite some time; I believe over a year at least! So upon learning that Laura is expecting her first baby (I think it's a girl by the way but they are waiting like we did) we decided to meet up and see each other since it has been a while. Since Katie lives in Rhodes Island, she is the one who lives in between us (Laura in MA and me in CT) we decided to meet at her house.  We had lots of food and great conversations.  I love it how when we meet up, and we haven't seen each other for a while, we can pick up and have great discussions like we were never apart.  I wish they lived closer as I do miss them a lot. Emma played with Elena (Katie's daughter who is a few months younger) and then ended up passing out playing in the basement as she was exhausted.  She slept for 3 hrs before I woke her up to leave. We stayed over the weekend at Monika's, our cousin's place, and they had company late into the night and it was too loud for Emma to sleep so she only slept 6 hrs that night - poor thing.  But we had a good time and then drove home on Sunday afternoon leaving us a few  hours to relax at home before the week started on Monday.

Finally no more rocks! 6/25/2010

June 25, 2010

The patio is done!

I have wanted to get rid of the rocks that used to be here as weeds grew in-between the rocks and it was not that safe for Emma with all the sharp rocks.  Considering the cost of colored stamps are enormous, we decided to go with colored concrete.  We also painted the rusty hatch door to the basement and the area looks pretty good to me.

The newly painted hatch and you can also see the new AC system which is enormous but runs quietly and very efficiently at variable speed and 17.5 SEER rating!

So is she ready to be a model or what?
This picture almost makes me uneasy!

Garden _part 2_061410

Emma ready to water the garden- she may have caught mom's love of gardening...

As you can probably tell I tried something different this year.  I spread week blocker in-between the veggie rows and then spread sterilized straw to help keep the heat off and retain moisture, not to mention hold off the weeds.  Update - the weeds were fewer but we sill had some on any area not covered by the week blocker since the straw deteriorates rather quickly.  We did have plenty of cucumbers, peas, lettuce, a few eggplants, and tons and tons of zucchini and tomatoes.

 Zucchini
The Snow Peas are ready to pick!
 The lettuce is ready too!
 Planted tomatoes
 Beans
Eggplant and herbs

Who says veggies are only for eating - they make great mustaches too!

A Trip to Lake Compounce May 31, 2010

May 31, 2010 - Lake Compounce
Emma on the swing boat ride

Emma loved her first trip to Lake Compounce when she actually participated since she was here last year but didn't ride anything at the time since she was too small and too scared.  This time she started out quite timid and we though it was not going to amount to anything but then I was able to go with her on a couple of rides and her courage grew and she quickly was off on her own enjoying the rides mommy was too big for.
First ride of the day - the fear quickly disappeared.
Emma's First Solo ride - the swings!
Car ride - she liked being at the wheel.
Dumbo can fly but Emma opted not to have him go up
This ride was a bit too fast- she was scared but then said she liked it.

Celebrating Emilka's 1st Birthday

May 30, 2010

The happy Birthday Girl!

Our good friend's daughter, Emilka, celebrated her fist birthday at a party at her parent's house.  We were there to help celebrate.

The parents bring out the birthday cake - I helped decorate!
Why don't I feed my dad for once!

Emma playing with sparklers after it got dark.
She loved them so much as did the other kids - we ran out in less than 1/2 hr!

Emma helping mom plant the front door planters

I am writing this blog a few months after taking the pictures but life gets in the way as we all know.
Here are some pictures from mid May of our veggie, fruit and shade garden.

First is our Veggie Garden mid May 2010
 Radishes/Salad
 Snap Peas - Emma's favorite
 Sorrel/lettuce
First Radishes of the season - nice and spicy just how I like them!

Next - Our Fruit!

Our strawberry path - always gone when ripe (neighborhood kids or animals/birds?)
Blueberry bush - also never get any!
 Gooseberries - yum!
Early black raspberries - we do get to eat at least some of these!

Finally our Shade Garden
