Some fun in the disappearing snow 02/27/2010

We took advantage of whatever snow remained after yesterday’s storm to take Emma sledding. The weather is pretty warm today and it is quickly disappearing. Emma had fun both pulling the sled and being pulled. She especially like it when I chased her and when she pulled the sled with Tata.     We had a good time although it wasn’t for long. Wethrew some snowballs but there really wasn’t enough snow to build a snowman. I took a little video of Emma in action as well as taking in our back yard.

Sneaky Little Devil

It is in way a secret that Emma loves her sweets. Cookies are her downfall. So the other night I gave her a couple of cookies and said no more. She obliged after some minor protest and I left the cookies on the coach. I went to do something in the kitchen maybe an hour later and come back to the living room and saw that Emma was not there. She went into her playroom and snuck the cookies with her and while holding them on the cat condo ate a few so we wouldn't see. The sheepish grin is when we caught her. You can see the cookie container near her on the cat condo. Sneaky little devil I tell you. It reminds me of the time my sister Agnes snuck into the bar to get some chocolates and ended up toppling the whole wall unit on top of her in Poland way back when.

As you can see by the puzzles all over the floor near her Emma is really into puzzles lately and can do a 24 piece puzzle in no time and has even done a 65 piece puzzle with a little help from Mama and Tata.

Emma's First Dentist Visit

Although Emma's first dentist visit actually happened on Dec 11, 2009 I didn't get the cell phone pictures transferred from my cell phone until recently so I am a couple of months late posting this. Sorry...

So for our first dental visit I made the appointment together. I went first so that Emma could see what was being done to me and that I was doing just fine even with all the instruments going into my mouth. She spent some time playing with this huge dog who had huge teeth and several brushes for the kids to play with. Emma did a great job brushing his teeth and then observing me. We took a rushed bathroom break in between and Emma got to push the button to take my X-ray. Not only this but we lucked out by getting a Polish dental hygienist who is also named Kasia. She spoke to Emma in Polish so I think this helped as well. When it was her turn Emma was a trouper. She didn't cry or make a fuss. She opened wide and let them use the instruments to polish her teeth with purple berry flavor of course. The dental hygienist flossed her teeth and put a fluoride treatment on. The dentist came shortly after to check Emma's teeth. She has nice healthy teeth with no cavities. That is thanks to our diligent brushing. Emma gets her teeth brushed three times a day. In the morning after breakfast, at lunch in daycare (which she does herself) and before bedtime. I guess our efforts are paying off. The bad news is that she inherited my small mouth and will not have enough room for all her permanent teeth since there is crowding already. I actually have three teeth that never grew in and one that I had surgically removed do to the same issue. The dentist told me that they give mouth spacers that widens the jaw to allow for all the teeth to fit. They no longer pull teeth. So we know we are in for some heavy duty dental bills in the future... Both the dentist and dental hygienist were so impressed with how well Emma did she got a glove face balloon with a floss string and a toy on the way out. the Dental Hygienist said it was a pleasure to work with someone so young that is so well behaved and lets them do their work so easily. Great job Emma - we are very proud...

Can't even find the words....02/21/2010

I went shopping and left Emma with Adam. She went to play in the basement in the finished area while Adam worked on the installation of the new furnace. When I came back I found her in the state below. Yes she is napping on the little area on the turn of the stairs to the basement. He has no idea how long she has been there or even when she went to nap. So much for checking in on her...and you wonder why mothers sometimes are hesitant to leave their kids with their husbands! I was too stunned to even yell at him really. I know he is busy but he should have checked on her...The good news is that she apparently inherited the ability to sleep just about anywhere and in any position from her father and grandmother...

Winter Wonderland 2/17/2010

Here a few photos of our back yard after the recent storm on Wed. We were supposed to get 1-3 inches and more like 8 inches. Last Wed we were supposed to get over 12 inches and got oh maybe 2 inches if you push it. Go figure.

My Valentine's Day Present

This year for Valentine's Day I didn't want any "gifts" per say. What I did ask for is that Adam finally hang up the flower prints I got like 4 years ago and the frames we bought for them over a year ago. Above is the finished product, below you can see a little bit of my husband sleeping since hanging up pictures is such a hard job!

Snow Day! 2/10/2010

On Wednesday we were supposed to have a huge snow storm so big that the daycare and my job was closed the night before. The funny thing was that it amounted to maybe 2-3 inches of snow total. But we enjoyed the day off. Emma got to play a lot and I organized two years worth of daycare daily reports, art, and daycare pictures for Emma so she can have a nice memory in the future. It took almost 9 hours! I was exhausted but had a great sense of accomplishment from it since it was sitting in large bags in the basement for a long time. Here are some photos of the Emma the next day before daycare showing off the huge "snow" we got! There is not enough left to even go sledding this weekend! The only real annoyance this storm brought was that our next door neighbor was very rude and used the snow blower for over an hour at 1 AM.

The Lion King Feb 7, 2010

I am ready for the show!

Emma smiling with Tata

We took Emma to her first broadway or in this case "off-broadway" play. It was the Lion King. We tried to make a special day out of it by first going out to a great Vietnamese restaurant before the show. Emma unfortunately fell asleep in the car to the restaurant and ended up sleeping on my arm the whole dinner. We still enjoyed it a lot even Adam's mom who is not a fan of spicy food but I guess it wasn't that spicy. We had Hot and Sour Vietnamese Soup, the Lemon Grass Chicken and the Curry Beef. We also shared some fresh spring rolls in a peanut sauce that I love despite not liking peanuts. Go figure. Emma finally woke up on the way to the theater. It was really cold out so the brisk walk to Bushenell woke all of us up. She loved the show as did Adam's mom and all of us. Emma liked it so much that at the half time break she asked to see it again. She was quite happy to see it come back and continue after break. The show was fantastic, real imaginative and quite entertaining. It was a great experience. Good thing Emma got a nap in since the show lasted almost three hours and it did not finish until 9:15 PM and we didn't get home until 10:20 PM. Below are some pictures of a very tired but happy Emma.

Feb 6, 2010

This is a video of Agnes vs. Edgar's race at the Bounce U at Leah's 4th Birthday party.

Happy Birthday Leah!

Feb 6, 2010

Emma went to her first kid's birthday party. It was Leah's 4th birthday party at Bounce U in North Haven, CT. At first she was a bit hesitant about getting into the bounce structures but I went in with her and in no time at all she was up and running around by herself. She horsed around with me, uncle Edgar and even godmother Agnes. She also was not afraid of other kids who were much more rowdy, not to mention the adults that were racing each other. She held her own very well. Her favorite by far was the one in the second room. It was sort of an obstacle course. Edgar took her on it first and she loved chasing him or being chased by him. Same goes for me and Agnes. In fact when it was time to leave she ran in one more time... She also enjoyed a little bit of pizza (only half a slice) but drank the entire 12 oz. cranberry juice. I guess she got thirsty after running around so much. Truth be told so was I! She had only a bit of the frosting off the cake and had some chocolate ice cream. She had a blast, didn't want to leave and of course she fell asleep on the way home! Thanks Leah and her parents for inviting us, we both had a blast!

A Star from Heaven 02/03/2010

I just had to share this story of what Emma did yesterday. There is a nasty stomache bug going around daycare and Emma just returned to daycare today. She had a nasty cold so she was home with Grandma for a week. Since Grandma is not working, I decided she can come back and stay home with Emma so we avoid her getting the stomach bug and passing it on to the rest of us. After dinner, I was on the way out the door to pick up Grandma who lives 40 minutes away but Emma didn't want me to leave. I told her I had to and if she asked Tata he would give her a cookie. That did the trick and Emma ran off to get her cookie. Emma has a real big sweet tooth like her Godmother Agnes. Well she had one and Adam put the rest of the package on the tall kitchen counter. She went to him and asked for another cookie. Adam said no they are for your mom and grandma. She asked again, again he denies her. After a couple of minutes, she came and asked again. This time Adam said "Well I want a star from heaven" meaning you can't have what you want. A couple minutes went by and she asked again. Again he said "I want a star from heaven but that doesn't mean I am going to get it" So she left to play. A couple minutes go by and she comes back and hands him a piece of paper. Adam asks "What's this". She replies "A star from heaven, can I have my cookie now?" She drew a star, and did a great job by the way, and gave it to him. All this so she can have a cookie! Once Adam stopped laughing he did give her the cookie. I can't believe how clever that was, the things she will do for sweets!
